ND Prep's Birch commits to Pitt

ESPNU is reporting that Notre Dame Prep power forward Khem Birch, the No. 2 overall prospect in the Class of 2012, has verbally committed to the University of Pittsburgh, citing multiple sources.

This morning, a team source confirmed to ESPNBoston's Brendan Hall that Birch made the decision last night.

Birch, a 6-foot-9 slasher from Sunnybrooke, Quebec, chose the Panthers over scholarship offers from a plethora of suitors, including West Virginia, Ohio State, North Carolina, Kentucky, Kansas, St. John's, Texas and Syracuse. He is the first 2012 commit for head coach Jamie Dixon.

One day before making his decision, Birch sat down with Hall following an open gym at the Fitchburg, Mass. school for a "Player Perspective" Q&A. Check back later today to ESPNBoston.com for the story.
