Florida, WVU, Michigan offer Everett's Montelus

ESPN's Roger Brown checks in today on the East Recruiting Blog with Everett High junior offensive tackle John Montelus, who has seen quite a bit of action in the recruiting circles since National Letter of Intent Day on February 1.

On Feb. 6, Montelus received a scholarship offer from the University of Florida. Six days later, the ESPN Boston All-State lineman was down in Morgantown, W. Va., on an unofficial visit at the University of West Virginia.

Brown writes:

Montelus was in class earlier last week when he received a message to call Florida head coach Will Muschamp. When he made the call, an offer was extended.

Montelus said he's trying to schedule a visit to Florida during April vacation.

“The West Virginia trip was really good,” Montelus said. “The coaches are friendly, the campus is nice and we got to attend a basketball game (West Virginia vs. Louisville). What I hated the most is I had no reception on my phone. That could be a problem. It's a lot of mountains, a lot of hills.”

West Virginia made Montelus an offer as well.

Montelus, a 6-foot-4, 293-pound junior, played left tackle last season, when he helped Everett extend the program's winning streak to 25 games by beating Lincoln-Sudbury, 36-13, in the Eastern Massachusetts Division 1A Super Bowl. He now has seven offers. The others are from Boston College, Connecticut, NC State, Syracuse and Virginia.

Montelus said he will attend a junior day at Connecticut on Feb. 25, and will likely make a return trip to Boston College for spring practice. He attended a junior day at BC last month.

“It was a great week,” he said.

Earlier today, Montelus also announced via his twitter account that Michigan had extended a scholarship offer, bringing his total to eight.

"Just got offered by Michigan," he wrote.
