BC High's Hassan gets non-roster invite to Sox

The Boston Red Sox announced 24 non-roster invitees for Spring Training today, and among the players is former BC High standout and Milton native Alex Hassan.

Hassan played two ways for three seasons as both an outfield and right-handed pitcher at Duke University, and was taken by the Sox in the 20th round of the 2009 MLB Draft. In 2011 he played a full season in Double-A Portland, hitting .291/.404/.456 totals with 13 home runs and 64 RBI in 454 at bats.

As a senior at BC High in 2006, Hassan was named the Catholic Conference Player of the Year, hitting .500 with two homers and 26 RBI while going 6-3 on the mound with a 1.58 ERA.
