Everett's John Montelus talks Michigan offer

ESPN Wolverine Nation's Tom Van Haaren checks in today with Everett offensive tackle John Montelus about his recent scholarship offer from the University of Michigan. The Wolverines offered Montelus earlier this week, followed by Rutgers, which adds to an already long list of suitors -- Florida, West Virginia, UConn, Boston College, Syracuse, NC State, and Virginia are the others.

When all is said and done, Montelus could be one of the best line prospects to come out of the Bay State in a while. The 6-foot-4 Montelus was named to ESPN Boston's MIAA All-State Team this past fall, and has drawn comparisons to Detroit Lions tackle and Somerville native Gosder Cherilus.

Van Haaren writes:

"Michigan (was an offer he was hoping for) because it is a really big school with good academics, good football team and great fans," he said. "I've been talking to Coach (Darrell) Funk, and I'm going to take a Michigan visit soon."

Montelus isn't positive as to when that visit will come, other than that it will be soon. He does have a few other visits in mind, though.

"I'm going to Florida on April vacation, and I'm going to UConn on (Feb.) 25," he said.

Montelus is open to everyone, and thinks he'll release a top list by the end of summer. He prides himself on being a polished pass and run blocker, and that he just, "loves hitting."
