BC High junior Connor Green, a Milton resident, is in Omaha for the USA Swimming Olympic Trials.
Communications Director Nick Puleo forwards along some more information on Green's quest for a spot in London:
Going into trials, Green was seeded 61st in the individual medley, but was able to drop 1.7 seconds from his time to move up to 32nd place. Only two competitors his age scored better.
In the 100 meter backstroke, Green was seeded 70th, dropped 0.42 seconds from his time, and placed 41st. Every other competitor scoring faster times was at least two years older: this could mean that Green is now the fastest high school backstroker in the country.
In January, Green set the record for the 200 meter backstroke, becoming the fastest swimmer in New England aged 15-18 in that category. The previous holder of that title was 1984 Olympic Gold Medalist Rick Carey.
The 200 meter backstroke race will take place on Friday morning. Green is currently ranked 23rd. If he continues his track record of improvements at trials, he could move into the top 16, qualifying him for the semi-finals.
