North Andover's Nelsen commits to St. Anselm

North Andover senior forward Isaiah Nelsen has verbally committed to St. Anselm College for the 2013-14 season, according to his coach with the New England Storm AAU program, Rick Gorman.

The 6-foot-6 Nelsen played a pivotal role in the frontcourt for the Knights, who captured the Cape Ann League title in their last year of league membership (North Andover has moved to the Merrimack Valley Conference), before getting bounced in the semifinals of the MIAA Division 2 North tournament. The Knights are expected to contend again in Division 2 North, among favorites such as Brighton, Wakefield and New Mission.

According to Gorman's tweet, Nelsen was fielding offers from at least three other schools in the Northeast-10 Conference -- Merrmiack, UMass-Lowell, and Assumption -- before settling on St. Anselm. He is the second player this month from the MIAA to commit to a NE-10 school for basketball, joining Rockland High's Tyler Gibson (UMass-Lowell).
