Billerica announces McKenna as new football coach

Billerica has ended its search for a football head coach today with the hiring of former Westford Academy head coach and Billerica graduate Rich McKenna.

Billerica Memorial High School Director of Athletics Dave Lezenski announced today the hiring of Rich McKenna (BMHS Class of’96) as the 14th coach in the history of BMHS football. McKenna arrives in Billerica after spending the past four seasons as a head coach at Westford Academy (2008-12).

Director of Athletics Dave Lezenski:

"We are pleased to announce the hiring of Rich. He is a terrific teacher/coach and will be a great ambassador and leader for the BMHS football program. We look forward to having him build a championship program on the field and in the classroom. Rich brings an incredible passion and enthusiasm for Billerica Memorial High School. He is an outstanding teacher, coach and motivator. He demands the best from his student-athletes both in the classroom and on the field.”

BMHS Football Coach Rich McKenna:

“It is a tremendous honor to become the Head Football Coach at Billerica Memorial High School. I grew up here, I live here, I teach here, and now I coach here. This is an opportunity I could not pass up. I really enjoyed my time at Westford and appreciate all of the hard work and efforts from my former players. With that being said, I love Billerica kids and can’t wait to start coaching them again.”

“I am extremely pleased for our student-athletes to welcome Rich McKenna back to Billerica Memorial High School to lead our football program. His impressive credentials and his previous experience with BMHS tell me he is a leader both on and off the field.”

McKenna his wife Julie have three boys, Jimmy (7), Luke (4) and Dougie (3).
