Wakefield High's Anthony Fabiano has given a verbal commitment to Harvard.
The 6-foot-5, 258-pound tight end announced his commitment in an e-mail Monday night.
"[I] have ended my recruitment so I can concentrate on the rest of my season and the school year," Fabiano wrote in the message. "I have been impressed with everything that Harvard has to offer. The combination of athletics, academics, facilities and location is something that really attracted me and the opportunities at Harvard are undeniable. Coach [Tim] Murphy and Coach [Joel] Lamb have been great throughout the process and I look forward to playing for them."
Fabiano was also reported to be considering Boston College, Bryant, UMass and UNH. He said he will most likely play offensive tackle, but could see time at defensive end.
Scouts Inc. rated him as the sixth best prospect in Massachusetts' Class of 2011 and writes that Fabiano could project more as an offensive lineman at the next level:
"Fabiano is a big-bodied high school tight end with good measurables. He is a solid prospect at the position, but he may possess better upside at another spot. He has good size for the tight end position, but will need to play in a more traditional pro-style offense if he stays at that position."
