MC alum Fitzgerald selected by Bruins

Former Malden Catholic standout Ryan Fitzgerald was selected by the Boston Bruins 120th overall (4th round) in Sunday's NHL draft.

The 5-foot-9, 170-pound center skated with the Valley Junior Warriors of the Eastern Junior Hockey League last year. In his three previous seasons at Malden Catholic, the North Reading native won back-to-back Super 8 championships with the Lancers while being named a first-team selection to the ESPN Boston All-State team.

Fitzgerald, who will skate at Boston College next season, is the son of former Bruin and current Pittsburgh Penguins assistant general manager Tom Fitzgerald and nephew of Bruins assistant director of amateur scouting, Scott Fitzgerald.
