MILFORD, Mass. -- On Monday evening at the Hoboken Club, the Milford High softball team was honored for its back-to-back MIAA Division 1 state championships.
During the proceedings, we handed out our 2013 Miss Softball Award to two-time recipient Shannon Smith. The recent graduate who's soon headed out for her freshman year at the University of Kentucky became just the second athlete in ESPN Boston's history to win two of our Player of the Year awards, joining Nicole Boudreau (Andover), who won consecutive Miss Basketball honors in 2011 and '12.
It also marked the end of an era, as the Scarlet Hawks graduate the program's three all-time hits leaders, with third baseman Caroline Fairbanks, center fielder Rachel Levine, and Smith all continuing their softball careers in college.
