Arlington's Dubzinski named Pats Coach of the Week

Off to a 4-0 start, Arlington football has been making waves in the Middlesex League, including a Week 4 upset of previously ranked Reading.

The Spy Ponders garnered another acclaim today, as third-year head coach John Dubzinski was named the New England Patriots Coach of the Week.

Here's more from the team's release:

Arlington High School’s John Dubzinski has been named this week’s New England Patriots High School Coach of the Week in recognition of his team’s 42-6 victory over Belmont on Friday, Oct. 4, in Arlington. The Spy Ponders scored on all five of their first-half possessions and shut out the Belmont offense until the fourth quarter to improve to a perfect 4-0 record. The New England Patriots Charitable Foundation will donate $1,000 to Arlington High School’s football program in Dubzinski’s name in recognition of his Coach of the Week selection.

Patriots and Pro Football Hall of Fame linebacker Andre Tippett, the team’s executive director of community affairs, visited Coach Dubzinski’s team on Tuesday, Oct. 8, at Arlington High School. The visit and check presentation will be featured on the Patriots weekly television magazine show, “Patriots All Access,” which airs at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 11, on WBZ-TV in Boston and will be available immediately after on Patriots.com.

This is the 18th year in which the Patriots join the National Football League in conducting the High School Coach of the Week program, which recognizes outstanding high school coaches and promotes youth football throughout New England. Tippett oversees the program as part of the New England Patriots Charitable Foundation’s commitment to youth football initiatives.

“Congratulations to Coach John Dubzinski and his team,” Tippett said. “The Arlington High School offense was unstoppable on Friday night, scoring six straight touchdowns to take a commanding 42-0 lead that their defense never relinquished. They are 2-0 in league play and 4-0 overall. This was a great win for the Spy Ponders.”

At the conclusion of the season, one high school coach will be named the New England Patriots High School Coach of the Year and will receive an additional $2,000 contribution toward the school’s football program.
