Andover High senior basketball star Natalie Gomez confirmed tonight that she has verbally committed to Marist College for the fall of 2011.
The 5-foot-6 point guard played a central role in the Warriors' run to the Division 1 state championship this past season, averaging 16 points, five assists and 4.5 steals. She chose Marist over interest from Providence, UMass, Delaware and Sacred Heart, and says she had about 15 scholarship offers total ranging from mid-major to Northeast-10 caliber schools.
"I'm very excited. It's unreal," Gomez-Martinez said of her commitment. "I love the feeling of knowing where I'm going. Even though it's only the summer, it takes alot of pressure off my shoulders."
What were the deciding factors?
"Definitely had to be the coaching staff, and the girls (on the team), and most important the academics," she said. "It has everything I needed, it was perfect."
A brief report on Gomez-Martinez from our friends at Scouts Inc. says she demonstrates "good vison", is a "solid passer" and the "quickness is there".
