Per head coach Paul Funk, Dennis-Yarmouth junior athlete Mike Dunn received his first Division 1 offer yesterday, from the University of New Hampshire.
The 6-foot, 185-pound Dunn was a jack of all trades in 2013 for the Dolphins, who lost to Doherty in the MIAA Division 4 State Championship. He lined up at every skill position on the offensive side of the ball; defensively, he established himself as one of the state's premier cornerbacks in man-to-man coverage.
Dunn is also a cousin of former D-Y quarterback Matt Montalto, who made ESPN Boston's All-State Team in 2011 after leading the Dolphins to their first MIAA Super Bowl Championship.
"They called him last night," Funk said. "[Receivers coach Ricky] Santos talked about using him on the offensive side of the ball in the slot or as a running back, but indicated that could change because of what he has done on defense."
A garden variety of local FCS programs have expressed interest in Dunn, as well as several FBS programs, including UMass, UConn, Boston College and South Florida.
Where Dunn projects at the next level varies depending on the school, whether it's nickel corner (South Florida), safety (BC, UConn), slot receiver (Colgate), running back (Rhode Island, Cornell) or even outside linebacker (Brown).
