Braintree's Columbus commits to UMass

Braintree baseball head coach Bill O'Connell tells ESPN Boston that rising senior third baseman Connor Columbus has given a verbal commitment to UMass-Amherst, becoming the second Wamps player in a week to commit to a Division 1 school.

“Connor is a rare commodity as a high school player in which he has power to all fields with also the ability to maintain a high batting average and on-base percentage. Connor is a hard-nosed player and a natural third baseman.”

An ESPN Boston All-State selection, Columbus hit .398 on the season with 35 RBI. He also led the Super 8 tournament with eight RBI. Columbus also hit two runs as the Wamps made a run to the Division 1A final.
