Braves select East Longmeadow's Ahmed in 2nd

Former East Longmeadow standout Nick Ahmed has just been picked by the Atlanta Braves in the second round (85th overall pick) of the Major League Baseball Draft.

As a four-year starter from 2005 to 2008, he helped lead the Spartans to three Suburban League titles and the 2007 Division 1 sectional title. He was named both the Pitcher of the Year and Player of the Year by The Republican during his high school career.

This season, Ahmed is batting .333 with 35 RBI and an on-base percentage of .432 for the Huskies, while missing time with a collapsed lung.
