Patriots linebacker Rob Ninkovich took a few minutes to chat with ESPNBoston's Mike Reiss to talk about the adversity he overcame in the classroom as a high school student, and his advice for high school students looking to pursue college athletics.
"My freshman and sophomore year, I didn't put the right time into what I had to do school-wise," Ninkovich told Reiss. "And then once football became something that I was really good, I said, 'I'd like to get a scholarship'. I wanted to go to Purdue, that was where I wanted to go out of high school, and my junior and senior year, I buckled down hard, got my grades up, 3.0 every semester but it wasn't enough to pass the (NCAA) clearinghouse."
