Wayland teen pleads not guilty to murder

Nathaniel Fujita, a former Wayland High football player, was arraigned in Framingham District Court Tuesday on a charge of first-degree murder in the death of 18-year-old Lauren Astley, whose body was discovered by a bicyclist Monday morning.

Fujita entered a not guilty plea after he was arrested earlier Tuesday and ordered held without bail.

Prosecutors said Fujita was one of the last people to see Astley alive after she left her job at the Natick Collection Sunday night.

Fujita and Astley were both 2011 graduates of Wayland High and reportedly dated on-and-off for three years.

Astley was a former captain of the Warriors’ tennis team. She’d been accepted to North Carolina’s Elon University and planned to study fashion design.
