Scouts are predicting big things for King Philip's Jake Layman when he hits the Nike EYBL Finals with the Boston Amateur Basketball Club this week in North Augusta, S.C. But before that, he stopped by the Big Shots showcase event this weekend in Myrtle Beach, S.C., and drew the eye of ESPN basketball recruiting analysts Dave Telep and Mike LaPlante.
The Wrentham resident currently holds offers from Boston College, Maryland, Notre Dame, Brigham Young, Texas A&M, Providence and UMass. That list will likely expand by the end of this week, as schools like Gonzaga have started to take notice.
In their recap of the Big Shots event, Telep and LaPlante write:
Picture a near 6-foot-8, long and rangy forward at the top of the press for teams that value length and defense. That's Layman. Now factor in that he's somewhat of a late-bloomer, isn't done growing and owns a jump shot and you've got not only a future ESPNU 100 player, but someone whose stock we're comfortable touting as very high. Layman is scratching the surface and hawks the ball as well as or better than most stretch 4-men in his class.
