Preseason Top 25 Unveiled

We kick off our coverage of the 2011 football preseason today with our first statewide MIAA Top 25 poll of the year, which you can find here.

There shouldn't be much surprise as to who starts off the season at No. 1. Defending Division 1 Super Bowl champion Everett, which finished No. 1 to end the season after record-breaking seasons from quarterback Jonathan DiBiaso (43 TD passes) and wideout Matt Costello (1,301 receiving yards, 23 TD) launched the Crimson Tide to an unprecedented eighth title in 12 seasons. The Greater Boston League drops to Division 1A this season, and the Tide are the overwhelming favorite to run the table.

Defending Division 2A champion Duxbury, with its swarming defense and high-octane offense led by quarterback Matt O'Keefe and wideout Don Webber, comes in at No. 2. And with the Patriot League Keenan moving up a division, it's possible we could see the Dragons facing No. 6 Mansfield of the Hockomock (the defending D2 champ) in a playoff for a return to Gillette Stadium.

BC High (3), Catholic Memorial (4) and Brockton (5) round out the top five.

They are joined in the top ten by Mansfield (6), Xaverian (7), Bridgewater-Raynham (8), St. John's of Shrewsbury (9) and Longmeadow (10).
