Warren among players not at practice

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Nine players, including four dinged up in Sunday's loss to the Colts, were not present as the Patriots practiced Wednesday afternoon on the upper fields outside Gillette Stadium.

Linebackers Rob Ninkovich (knee) and Tully Banta-Cain (rib), offensive lineman Stephen Neal (head), and wide receiver/special teams ace Sam Aiken (hip) all left Sunday's game in Indianapolis and did not return. None of the four were spotted during the portion open to the media, which included stretching and position drills.

Also missing were running back Fred Taylor, linebacker Gary Guyton, wide receiver Randy Moss and defensive linemen Ty Warren and Jarvis Green.

Moss was in the locker room before practice and is likely receiving another maintenance day, while Green walked through and deemed himself "good" despite walking with a slight limp as he recovers from knee surgery.

Warren is nursing an ankle injury and did not suit up for Sunday's game, while Taylor remains sidelined after ankle surgery earlier this season.

One other note from pratice: Wide receiver/quarterback Isaiah Stanback, elevated to the active roster from the practice squad this past weekend, has swapped to a receiver-friendly jersey number, 15. He previously wore No. 9. The NFL requires active wide receivers to wear numbers that are either from 10-19 or 80-89.
