ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli comes up with a unique idea to lead off his "Tip Sheet" column this week as he selects his "All Restricted Free Agent" team across the NFL. With more than 200 players who would have been unrestricted free agents becoming restricted free agents in a season without a salary cap, the pool of restricted talent will be rich.
As Pasquarelli went around the NFL, he deemed Logan Mankins the top left guard and Stephen Gostkowski the top kicker. This is no surprise and highlights how the uncapped year helps the Patriots in terms of retaining two top players.
Looking ahead, while the Patriots presently have more pressing contract issues (e.g. Vince Wilfork, Tom Brady), taking a proactive approach with Mankins and Gostkowski at some point over the next 6-9 months would benefit them in the hopes of striking a long-term agreement that suits both sides.
The longer the wait, the price only figures to rise.
