For those who believe the weight of expectations can possibly sink a team, the New York Jets will be an interesting case study in 2010. Given their connection to the Patriots as a heated rival, the topic is brought up here after reading Jane McManus's story on ESPNNewYork.com.
McManus writes on Jets fans predicting a 15-1 record in 2010 (on ESPN.com) and gets head coach Rex Ryan's thoughts on the record.
"15-1, I'll actually take that," Ryan tells McManus. "15-1, Jets fans are smart. We'll go ahead and take that. I don't want to be too greedy."
The one loss that fans voted for the Jets comes against the Patriots on Dec. 6 at Gillette Stadium.
At the end of the story, Ryan adds: "Man, that's some expectations."
While the Jets face those lofty expectations, it seems as if the Patriots are at the other end of the spectrum. Some are now asking if the team is even the favorite in the AFC East.
Whether those expectations factor into both teams' seasons remains to be seen, but the shift this offseason has been interesting to watch unfold.
