FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. -- One Patriots player who figures to see a lot of action in Thursday's preseason game against the Falcons is rookie offensive lineman Brian Simmons.
Simmons, a rookie free-agent out of Oklahoma, was signed on Sunday. His story is an inspirational one, as he has overcome a clubfoot to find his way on to an NFL roster. Simmons has been working at both left tackle and right tackle in practices this week.
Rob Rang's draft blog on CBSSports.com tells the story.
"With thousands of prospects to grade, NFL teams rely on sharing medical information," Rang writes. "It is one of the primary reasons for the development of the Scouting Combine as we now know it. By being placed on the reject list, Simmons had virtually no shot at getting as much as a workout from an NFL team despite the fact that other professional athletes, including Hall of Famer Troy Aikman, have beaten clubfoot to enjoy productive careers."
