Soundbites from Patriots players

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Soundbites from Patriots players following the team’s full-pads practice Monday at Gillette Stadium:

Safety Brandon Meriweather on leaving last Thursday’s game with a leg injury but returning to practice: “I felt good [today]. I’m taking everything slow and coming out to play football, something I love.”

Inside linebacker Jerod Mayo on his excitement for the defense this year: “I’m excited. Any time you have Coach Belichick running the defense, you have to be happy. You have to go to work each and every day, ready to learn something new. It’s all about situations.”

Mayo on how he feels entering the third season of his career: “I feel good. I feel like I’m becoming more comfortable with the coaches, more comfortable with the guys around me. Even though we lost a couple guys, I’m learning how the young guys come out, and how to communicate with them.”

Defensive lineman Mike Wright on being praised by Bill Belichick for his versatility: “If he wants me to play outside linebacker or cornerback, I’m going to do it. I think that’s the mindset of all the guys on the team. I think that’s why we work so well together.”

Receiver Matthew Slater on if he feels like he faces an uphill battle for a roster spot: “The type of person I am, I always feel like it’s an uphill battle, since I got here. Being hurt is something you can’t always control. ... I’m just happy to be out on the field now.”
