Wes Welker: 'I just can't wait'

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker is already in his seventh NFL season, so he’s experienced the excitement that comes with a season-opening game. But this one will be different.

“It will mean a lot, because this is what I’ve been working towards this whole time and making sure I was out here for Week 1,” he told reporters Friday. “Every day we’re a little bit closer. I just can’t wait. I’m excited to get out there.”

Welker added that he has his “whole family coming to town”, so he’s expecting it to almost feel like his first game all over again.

Welker’s recovery from early February surgery to repair a torn left ACL was one of the team’s biggest question marks entering training camp. His timetable for a return has been quicker than many anticipated.

“We’ve been through a lot this offseason; it’s time to almost turn the page,” he said. “This is kind of one of those deals of breaking the ice and getting back out there.”
