In the video clip above, Trey Wingo, Tim Hasselbeck and Trent Dilfer demonstrate why the Jets’ man defense figures to slow down the Patriots' passing game in their matchup on Monday Night Football.
“[The Patriots’] plan is to get you in zone coverages and torch you,” Dilfer explains. “They are going to possess the ball, they are going to put points on the board. We’re going to show you the problem they have though when they play the Jets, because the Jets don’t have to play those types of zones.”
The Patriots thrive on finding the soft spots in opposing teams’ zones. The Jets' plan is to take that away with man coverage as opposed to zone. Hasselbeck and Dilfer demonstrate how the Jets’ man coverage -- they have the cornerbacks to do it -- takes the rhythm out of the Patriots’ passing game.
“Rex Ryan knows what happened the first time around,” says Wingo. "The Patriots had a great game plan in the first half against that Jets defense. In the second half, the Jets defense really took control and throttled that Patriots offense.”
