FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- The Patriots selected Texas Christian offensive lineman Marcus Cannon with their initial fifth-round draft choice (138th overall).
At 6-foot-5, 358 pounds, Cannon was one of the biggest offensive linemen in the draft. He projects as a right tackle or right guard.
Cannon was recently diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma after pre-draft tests revealed that a benign mass in his groin had grown since being detected four years ago, according to ESPNDallas.com. Previous reports erroneously stated that Cannon had been diagnosed with testicular cancer.
As a redshirt senior last season, Cannon started all 13 games for TCU and was a first team All-Mountain West Conference selection for the second straight season.
Cannon played at Odessa (TX) High School, of "Friday Night Lights" fame.
