Linebacker Dane Fletcher was one of the Patriots' more surprising contributors last season, making the club as a rookie free agent out of Montana State. When 2010 training camp began, the odds were stacked against him because the Patriots had Jerod Mayo, Brandon Spikes, Gary Guyton and Tyrone McKenzie ahead of him on the depth chart.
All were either high draft picks (Mayo, Spikes, McKenzie) or had multiple years of experience in the team's system (Guyton).
But Fletcher proved that he was a quick study in making the transition from college defensive end to NFL inside linebacker, while also adapting quickly to special teams. That not only led to him making the club, but contributing on a week to week basis.
So where does Fletcher go from here?
That topic, and more, is explored in a story now posted on ESPNBoston.com.
