Meriweather 7th in USA Today ranking

USA Today continues its "NFL's Best" series this week with the safety position, and New England's Brandon Meriweather checks in at No. 7. This marks the second straight week that a Patriot holds the No. 7 spot, as Devin McCourty landed at 7 in the cornerback rankings.

"Meriweather has earned Pro Bowl honors in each of the past two seasons," USA Today notes. "After contributing little as a rookie in 2007, he has picked off 12 passes in the past three seasons."

Meriweather totaled 22 points, tying with Titans safety Michael Griffin.

Pittsburgh's Troy Polamalu, Baltimore's Ed Reed, Green Bay's Nick Collins, Kansas City's Eric Berry and Arizona's Adrian Wilson rounded out the top five.

Eight USA Today staff writers comprised the voting panel.
