FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Observations from Friday morning's practice, the Patriots' third of training camp, which was a shorts and t-shirts walkthrough held in overcast conditions.

Ochocinco takes it in. Newly-acquired wide receiver Chad Ochocinco was on field for the session, but was not in uniform and did not take part in any of the walkthrough activities. He spent most of his time talking to offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien and quarterback Tom Brady. After practice, Ochocinco and rookie quarterback Ryan Mallett both headed into the team's indoor practice facility for what was likely some individual drill work.

Several fans in attendance for the session were clad in Bengals Chad Johnson/Ochocinco jerseys. However, Ochocinco did not sign autographs following the practice.

Haynesworth not spotted. Another new acquisition, defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth was not spotted on the field on Friday morning. Also not seen were tight end Alge Crumpler, offensive lineman Nick Kaczur, and defensive linemen Myron Pryor (active/PUP) and Marcus Stroud. Meanwhile, tight end Aaron Hernandez (active/PUP) was present but not in uniform for the session, while active/PUP defensive linemen Ron Brace, Brandon Deaderick, and Ty Warren all participated in the walkthrough. Safety James Sanders and rookie offensive lineman Mike Berry (active/NFI) were both participants in the walkthrough session.

Mallett makes debut. Quarterback Ryan Mallett made his practice debut on Friday after signing his rookie deal. Only offensive linemen Marcus Cannon and Nate Solder, cornerback Ras-I Dowling, and running back Shane Vereen remain as unsigned draft selections and thus out of practice. Offensive lineman Logan Mankins (franchise tag), cornerback Kyle Arrington (exclusive-rights free agent), and running back BenJarvus Green-Ellis (restricted free agent) remained out of action due to CBA transition rules.
