BUFFALO, NY -- The Patriots have promoted safety Ross Ventrone from their practice squad.
The team had an open roster spot after releasing tight end Dan Gronkowski on Friday.
The move with Ventrone was likely made with special teams in mind. Also, the Bills run a spread offense and Ventrone adds depth in the secondary in a game where the Patriots figure to be in 5- and 6- defensive back packages.
The Patriots did not make any other roster moves on Saturday, which could be a sign that injured punter Zoltan Mesko had a good workout on Friday, which he said was the key day for him.
Mesko injured his left knee in last Sunday's win over the Chargers.
