The Patriots will re-sign veteran defensive lineman Gerard Warren to fill their open roster spot created by the release of defensive lineman Landon Cohen on Tuesday, reports Shalise Manza Young of the Boston Globe.
Warren, who started 10 games for the team last season, was re-signed on Aug. 8 and was released prior to the team's regular season opener. He tried out for the Chiefs on Sept. 16, but some personal items remained in Warren's old locker at Gillette Stadium through the first three weeks of the season.
At 6-foot-4, 330 pounds, Warren returns some size to the Patriots' defensive line, which was without Albert Haynesworth (back) and Mike Wright (concussion) in Buffalo on Sunday.
If Warren had been on the Patriots' 53-man roster for Week 1, his base salary would effectively have been guaranteed via the NFL's veteran termination pay system.
