Former Patriots cornerback Leigh Bodden elected to undergo back surgery this morning, his agent Alvin Keels said on Twitter.
Keels said the injury occurred in the season-opening win over the Dolphins. Bodden, who was released Oct. 28, had been listed on the team's injury report with hand, back, groin and thumb injuries at various times.
The back injury was noted on the Week 2 injury report, but not after that.
"It was a routine operation and he is expected to make a full recovery. No timetable has been set yet for his recovery," Keels said. "The injury is not career-threatening. However. he could not play any longer this season with out getting the condition corrected by surgery."
After Bodden was released by the Patriots, he worked out for the Kansas City Chiefs. At the time, Keels said he would take a patient approach on finding the best fit for Bodden in 2011, and that Bodden was "totally healthy."
