FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Patriots defensive end Andre Carter was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week on Wednesday, following a franchise-record 4.5-sack performance on Sunday night against the Jets.
This is the first AFC Defensive Player of the Week honor for a Patriots player this season. Quarterback Tom Brady has twice been named AFC Offensive Player of the Week in 2011.
Safety James Sanders was the last Patriots player to be named AFC Defensive Player of Week, in Week 10 of last season.
It is Carter's second career Defensive Player of the Week honor, last earning it as a rookie in Week 17 of 2001.
