Vollmer absent; Spikes, Fletcher spotted

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Patriots offensive tackle Sebastian Vollmer was the lone player not spotted at Wednesday's walkthrough session.

Vollmer left Sunday's game in Philadelphia with an ankle injury, and was seen leaving the stadium with a walking boot on his right foot.

Although centers Dan Connolly (who did not travel to Philadelphia) and Ryan Wendell were present, guard Donald Thomas and practice squad guard/center Nick McDonald practiced snapping to quarterbacks Tom Brady and Brian Hoyer. This will be one area to watch, with McDonald a candidate to be added to the 53-man roster later this week.

Meanwhile, linebackers Brandon Spikes (knee) and Dane Fletcher (thumb) were both on the field, although Spikes stood on the sidelines in a heavy jacket for the duration of media access (kickoff drills). Fletcher has not been seen on the practice fields since Oct. 14, while Spikes has been out since injuring his knee against the Giants on Nov. 6.

Newly-signed cornerback Nate Jones was on the field wearing No. 23, taking part in special teams drills.

This is the third straight week the team has not been in helmets or pads for their Wednesday practice.
