Ventrone, DE Lavarias to practice squad

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- The Patriots on Wednesday re-signed safety Ross Ventrone and defensive end Aaron Lavarias to their practice squad.

Ventrone was waived from the 53-man roster on Monday. His re-signing to the practice squad marks his 21st transaction with the team since mid-August. Ventrone has played in eight regular season games this season. Had he played in a ninth on Sunday against Buffalo, Ventrone would no longer be eligible for the practice squad beginning next season.

Lavarias, an undrafted rookie from Idaho, spent the preseason with New England and the first week of the season on the Patriots' practice squad. He was released on Sept. 14 and later spent time on the Lions' practice squad. He returns some defensive line depth to the practice squad following the promotion of Alex Silvestro to the 53-man roster last week and the release of Cedric McKinley from the practice squad this week.

Both signings are notable in that the team did not add offensive line depth to their practice squad despite having three open spots this week. Guard Logan Mankins (knee) and tackles Matt Light (ankle) and Sebastian Vollmer (back/foot) all missed Saturday's game.
