WR Davis signed to practice squad

Wide receiver Britt Davis has been signed to the Patriots' practice squad today, the team announced.

To create room for Davis, the team released tight end Garrett Mills off the practice squad.

The 25-year-old Davis is a first-year player from Northern Illinois. He entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with the Jets in 2009, and has spent time on practice squads with the Jets and Broncos. Davis (6-3, 205) played three games with the Broncos at the end of the 2010 season.

Mills was the most experienced player on the Patriots' practice squad. He also was one of the team's most expensive, earning significantly more than the practice squad minimum. It's possible that the presence of tight end/wide receiver Dorin Dickerson on the practice squad led to the team's decision to let Mills go.
