The Patriots added to their 80-man offseason roster on Tuesday, re-signing running back Eric Kettani.
Kettani still hasn't been cleared by the Navy to resume his football career, according to his Ohio-based agent Edward Brown. If that doesn't happen by the time the 2012 league year begins (March 13), he could land on the reserve/military list.
Kettani, a Navy product, originally signed with New England as an undrafted free agent in 2009, before spending two seasons on active duty with the Navy.
He returned to the team last July, but missed much of training camp and the entire preseason with an undisclosed injury. Kettani returned to the practice squad for the first five weeks of the season before he was unexpectedly denied leave by the Navy, leading to his release from the practice squad on Oct. 7.
Kettani, who has kept himself in football shape and is "ready to go" according to Brown, joins the mix in a Patriots backfield in which leading rusher BenJarvus Green-Ellis is set to become an unrestricted free agent next month.
