If you had to pick five of the Patriots own free agents that the team had to have back, would you agree with this list?
DE Mark Anderson
C Dan Connolly
DL Kyle Love (exclusive rights)
ST Matthew Slater
WR Wes Welker
Those are the five that Chris Burke of SI.com picked in his AFC East "free-agency primer" piece.
"Anderson recorded 10 sacks, and at 28 years old, might be entering his prime," Burke writes. "If this is a pick-one proposition between he and [Andre] Carter (32, coming off a season-ending injury), the Pats must choose Anderson. New England has a similar situation with Connolly, who stepped up and started 13 games after Dan Koppen fell to injury — pick the younger, healthier option."
These are some of the decisions ahead for the Patriots. Free agency begins March 13, but the negotiating season has already begun when it comes to talking contract extensions with their own players.
