Mock thoughts: Upshaw & Dennard

Chad Reuter of NFL Network produces an updated mock draft leading into the combine, and it focuses on defense for the Patriots.

At No. 27, Reuter envisions a scenario that would likely please Patriots followers, with Alabama outside linebacker Courtney Upshaw falling to New England.

"Upshaw may not be the most explosive pass rusher in the draft, but his strength on the edge and versatility would seem to fit Bill Belichick's multiple-front defensive scheme quite well," Reuter writes.

At No. 31, Reuter again focuses on defense, with Nebraska cornerback Alfonzo Dennard.

"On the off-chance that another team won't pry this pick away from the Patriots, Dennard could help bolster a secondary in need of playmakers," he writes.

In his previous mock draft, Reuter had Upshaw going to the Cowboys at No. 14. He had Dennard going 21st to the Bengals in the prior mock.
