ESPN.com draft analyst Mel Kiper has updated his latest first-round projection and he focuses on defense for the Patriots.
At No. 27, the pick is UConn defensive lineman Kendall Reyes. Kiper notes that he had Reyes, of Nashua, NH, going to the Patriots at the No. 31 pick in his previous mock. He now has him moving up a few spots..
"The Patriots know they have to get better along the defensive front ..." Kiper writes. "Reyes provides an active run-stuffer up front, a guy that can eat up blocks and free up rushers."
Then at No. 31, Kiper addresses the back end of the defense with sliding cornerback Janoris Jenkins (Florida/North Alabama).
"There's no question Jenkins comes with baggage, but without it you're talking about a player in the conversation 20 spots higher on the board," Kiper writes. "But put a talent like Jenkins in a culture like New England's, and you could have a steal."
