Patriots coach Bill Belichick was this year's featured speaker at the Nebraska football clinic, his presence tied to a Cornhuskers coach who previously coached his son at The Rivers School.
Belichick's message to coaches is captured in this Omaha World-Herald story.
Belichick spoke for an hour, according to reporter Sam McKewon, and didn't use notes.
Some of the main topics he touched on included:
1. Short-term focus.
2. Clearly set goals.
3. Balancing a roster between players who do one thing well and are versatile.
4. Managing workload -- more isn't always better.
I've had the chance to hear Belichick speak in these environments in the past, and have enjoyed the experience. His 2008 appearance at Salem State, in particular, was something in which I often refer back to my notes on his approach and views of leadership.
