The United States Navy announced on its official Twitter account on Wednesday that Patriots running back Eric Kettani has been granted his release from active duty to continue to his professional football career.
This doesn't change Kettani's roster status, as he had already been on the active roster since re-signing with the team on Feb. 14. But for the time being, Kettani's release from active duty will give him a chance to participate in offseason workouts. It is unclear at this point what the Navy's decision will be if Kettani does not make the Patriots' 53-man roster.
Kettani originally signed with the Patriots as an undrafted free agent in 2009, but spent his first two seasons on the reserve/military list. He was reinstated last July, and spent the first five weeks of the season on New England's practice squad before the Navy recalled him to active duty on Oct. 7.
