News conference for Light on Monday

The Patriots have scheduled a Monday news conference at the team's Hall of Fame to formally announce the retirement of offensive tackle Matt Light.

Light was placed on the reserve/retired list on April 24, making his retirement official. But there has been no formal announcement from the team, other than Bill Belichick acknowledging the retirement in a Sirius XM NFL Radio interview.

The Patriots have traditionally liked to send certain players out in style, such as Troy Brown and Tedy Bruschi, and this could have been a case where Light wasn't available until Monday.

One can expect the same type of first-class treatment for Light, who played his entire career with the franchise (2001-2011) and had the important job of protecting Tom Brady's blindside. Belichick and Patriots owner Robert Kraft are scheduled to be in attendance at the news conference.

EXTRA POINT: On the day Light was placed on the reserve/retired list, thoughts on his career were shared here.
