FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Wrapping up the second day of training camp and the key storylines:
Rookie Dennard sidelined. Seventh-round draft choice Alfonzo Dennard, who had flashed skills earlier in practice with a pass breakup at cornerback, didn't finish the session after appearing to injure his right hamstring.
Another big crowd. After a single-session attendance record was set on Thursday (12,163), the mark was broken on Friday (13,654). Fans are coming out in big numbers to see the Patriots.
Help for the offensive line. The club signed rookie free-agent offensive lineman Darrion Weems of Oregon. The addition of Weems, coupled with rookie free agent Jeremiah Warren coming off the active/physically unable to perform list, gave the Patriots a total of 12 linemen at practice. They worked with just 10 on Thursday, which was too thin.
Hernandez takes punt returns. Tight end Aaron Hernandez has proven to be a playmaker with the football in his possession, and the Patriots gave him a look as a punt returner. Hernandez said he hasn't served as a returner since his high school days.
Gronkowski all business. Tight end Rob Gronkowski answered questions from reporters after the session and he was all business. The "Summer of Gronk" is over. "I'm here to play some football, baby," he said (link here).
Tough day at the office. Long-shot receiver Britt Davis, who had two dropped passes.
Storyline to monitor. Whose performance rises up in the first full-pads practice of camp on Saturday?
Rookie watch. Running back Brandon Bolden seems to be taking advantage of the extended opportunity he's receiving with veteran Joseph Addai no longer with the team. Bolden had a drop on Friday, but overall, he's caught the ball well. ... Also, rookie free agent Justin Francis (Rutgers) showed up with a disruptive rush on backup quarterback Brian Hoyer.
