Belichick: 'Doesn't look good' on Fletcher

Patriots coach Bill Belichick provided a rare injury update on Friday, saying that "it doesn't look very good" for linebacker Dane Fletcher, who left Thursday's preseason opener with a knee injury.

"He might be out for a while," Belichick said on a conference call.

Multiple reports indicated that Fletcher tore his ACL.

"It's unfortunate, because he's worked hard. He had a really good offseason and training camp," Belichick said. "We have good competition at that position, and it will be an opportunity for somebody else to step in, but it's unfortunate for Dane."

Belichick stopped short of saying that Fletcher would be placed on season-ending injured reserve at this point, although it seems like a good guess that's what will ultimately happen.

"I'm not trying to speculate on his injury," Belichick said. "I think he's going to be out for a while, and we'll see exactly what that means. I don't know."
