Edelman, Koutouvides ejected from practice

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Patriots coach Bill Belichick ejected receiver/punt returner Julian Edelman and linebacker Niko Koutouvides from Thursday’s training camp practice, a result of some “extracurricular activities” from both after a punt return drill.

The ejections came about 90 minutes into the practice. It was unusual to see the two players walking off the practice fields, Edelman about 20-25 yards ahead of Koutouvides, on their way back to the locker room.

That created a unique dynamic where the two players would be back in the locker room together, with everyone else out at practice. Perhaps cooler heads prevailed back in the locker room.

Meanwhile, rookie safety Tavon Wilson and second-year running back Stevan Ridley both didn’t finish practice after sustaining injuries.

Wilson was seen icing his left ankle/foot, while Ridley worked on balancing himself on one foot for trainer Jim Whalen. Neither injury appeared serious, although it could affect their availability in some upcoming practices.

Elsewhere, left guard Logan Mankins worked in full pads and was part of team drills for the first time.

Receiver Jabar Gaffney, who pulled up in Wednesday’s practice, did not participate.

Full observations to come.
