TAMPA -- Rookie running back Jeff Demps has participated in his first two practices with the Patriots, both of which were joint sessions with the Buccaneers, and his presence was noted by others on the field.
Some first impressions?
"Speed kills. He's always going to have that," said Patriots linebacker Brandon Spikes, who was Demps' former teammate at Florida. "That's the No. 1 thing he brings to the game. It could go at any time when he gets the ball in his hands. It's good that we have that threat on our offense."
Rookie Buccaneers linebacker Lavonte David also shared his thoughts.
"He's a fast back, so when you're facing a guy like that you have to be real cautious of your technique and things like that," he relayed. "It was all competitive. Everyone did a good job."
On Wednesday, the 5-foot-7, 183-pound Demps participated in 1-on-1 blitz pickup drills against the Buccaneers. That is an area that Spikes has been impressed with Demps, going back to their days as teammates in Florida.
"I remember him putting his head in there, being a smaller guy. He has great heart and a lot of fight. I'm just happy he's on the team," Spikes said.
