Source: Patriots work out QB Kafka

The Patriots worked out free agent quarterback Mike Kafka on Tuesday, according to a source.

Kafka was recently released by the Eagles, the team he was drafted by in the fourth round in 2010. Philadelphia opted to keep rookie Nick Foles and veteran Trent Edwards as Michael Vick's backups, rendering Kafka expendable.

The former Northwestern quarterback and the MVP of the 2010 East-West Shrine Game has just 107 career passing yards.

The Patriots currently have just two quarterbacks on their active roster, Tom Brady and Ryan Mallett. The team does not have a quarterback on its practice squad.

Jason LaCanfora of CBSSports.com initially reported the workout.
