FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Third-year tight end Michael Hoomanawanui, who missed last Sunday's win over the Broncos with a concussion, returned to practice for the first time Friday.
The presence of Hoomanawanui would add a third, or possibly fourth tight end, to the 46-man game-day roster. Rob Gronkowski and Daniel Fells project to play Sunday, while Hoomanawanui and Aaron Hernandez seem to be more questionable.
The tight end position has helped the Patriots dictate favorable matchups at times, which is a big part of their attack. So that is one reason that Hoomanawanui's presence on the field was notable today. The other factor that could come into play Sunday is the tight ends providing support to the team's offensive tackles against the Seahawks' edge pressure.
Hoomanawanui has mostly been utilized in a blocking role, playing 55 snaps through the first four games.
